Santa Fe County Residents Should Be Expecting Property Valuation Notices in the Mail

Santa Fe   April 15, 2011       The Santa Fe County Assessors Office mailed out the 2011 Property Valuation Notices Friday, April 15, 2011. Santa Fe County property owners should expect to receive their valuation notice in the mail over the next few days. This year the Santa Fe County Assessor?s Office has added a new insert to the notice of values, a Helpful Tips handout.

The Helpful Tips handout helps outline, explain and answer questions related to the Property Valuation Notice. The flier includes information on Limitation of Valuation, Taxpayer Benefits and Exemptions, Calculating Your Tax Bill, Why Did My Property Value Increase when the Market is Declining, Disclosure of Sales Price and Reporting Improvements.

The Helpful Tips mail insert is something new to our office we are hoping residents find it beneficial, we feel it is a great way to help property owners understand their Notice of Value, said Domingo P. Martinez, Santa Fe County Assessor.

Property owners are reminded they have 30 days from the date of the official mailing to protest the assigned value of their property or properties. The protest period deadline is May 16, 2011. Failure to receive the Notice of Value does not invalidate the value set on the property, any property tax based on the assessed value or any subsequent procedure instituted for the collection of taxes deemed owed.

Tax payers should review their Notice of Value carefully by doing this residents can insure the information on their valuation is correct. The assessed value is what their tax bill in November is based on, said County Assessor, Domingo P. Martinez.

The Assessors Office is currently accepting applications for other taxpayer benefits such as family exemptions, veteran exemptions and a valuation freeze from individuals who may qualify. For a full list of exemptions and forms visit www.santafecounty.org/assessor.
